IMAGINING THE GREATER PARIS

Rooted in Pantin, a rapidly evolving urban laboratory in Seine-Saint-Denis, the Magasins Généraux play an active role in fostering the energy and emergence of a new territorial scale: that of a Greater Paris transcending historical urban limits and the ring road. By focusing on this fresh perspective, the Magasins Généraux present a renewed vision of the metropolis, encouraging unity among its inhabitants.

THE GREATER PARIS, A CORE FOCUS OF THE MAGASINS GÉNÉRAUX SINCE ITS INCEPTION

EMBLEMATIC EXHIBITIONS

In April 2017, the Magasins Généraux inaugurated its space by hosting the exhibition "Les Grands Parisiens" in partnership with the Mois de la Photo du Grand Paris. Echoing this initiative, in the summer of 2022, the Magasins Généraux welcomed and organized a photographic exhibition titled "Regards du Grand Paris" in collaboration with the Ateliers Médicis, the Centre National des arts plastiques, the Société du Grand Paris, and The Carnavalet-History of Paris Museum.

A NEW CARTOGRAPHY WITH A UNIQUE GUIDEBOOK

Since 2018, the Magasins Généraux has initiated "the Greater Paris Guide", the first cultural guide of the Greater Paris, published in collaboration with Enlarge Your Paris. Following the first two publications, a new edition of this guide will be released in spring 2024, focusing on sports in line with the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

DEDICATED SIGNAGE

The Magasins Généraux and Enlarge Your Paris collaborated on a dedicated signage project, inspired by the colors of the guidebook, as part of the FAIRE Design 2020 competition initiated by the Pavillon de l'Arsenal. By identifying the major landmarks of the Greater Paris on directional signs throughout the capital, this project has helped to make this new territorial scale a reality for the city’s inhabitants and encouraged them to explore various places.

THE OURCQ CANAL, A PLAYGROUND FOR SYNERGIES IN THE GREATER PARIS AREA

Stretching from Stalingrad to Bobigny, the Ourcq Canal serves as an ideal testing ground for envisioning the Greater-Parisian identity. It has become a link that transforms conventional borders, and allows for new ways of crossing them.

Numerous cultural actors thrive along this canal, all contributing to its vibrancy. With a desire to highlight these neighboring actors, the Magasins Généraux have created the map "Au fil de l'Ourcq". Through guided tour itineraries and cross-programming, it aims to resonate with local artistic initiatives and encourage encounters between audiences.

In this spirit of collaboration, the Magasins Généraux are also partners of "1KM de Danse", a festive event run by the Centre National de la Danse (CN D), bringing together the inhabitants of the Greater Paris for a day of dance in May.
